Zia

Zia is a group of three musicians, led by Scott Ducaj on Trumpet/Flugelhorn that plays a unique sounding new age jazz with a southwestern taste from the desert. You'll hear subtle sounds of muted trumpet and flugelhorn mixed with acoustic guitar and percussion to give you the feeling of being in your own desert home. Growing up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Scott would go out hiking deep into the desert with his horn. He would stop and play, making up simple melodies, hearing the percussion and acoustic guitar in his head. Steady repeating rhythms with different pops and sparks sometimes coming from a nearby fire. That's where some of these songs come from, written down and recorded for the first time. There is no overdubbing on this CD, except for some of the percussion programming, everything is played direct live to tape. Each of the songs has the personal creative input of each instrument. In a group this small, every voice is truly heard, Much like the desert, there's no place to hide. Unless, that is....you have a home...a "Desert Home".
